Dennis H.
Lundberg
Jul 16, 1935 — Oct 24, 2026
Dennis H. Lundberg, 91, of Jamestown, died Saturday, October 24, 2026, surrounded by daughter Denise, son Patrick and granddaughters Brianna and Cayla in UPMC Chautauqua.
Born July 16, 1935, in Jamestown, he was the son of Harry and Mae (Peterson) Lundberg.
He was a 1953 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the US Army from 1958-1960.
Dennis, "Denny", was employed by Jamestown Cycle Shop (formed in 1924) after his discharge from the US Army. In 1960, he bought out half ownership of the business from a family member, and the store was moved from 123 East Second Street to 100 East Second Street in 1966. In 1976, he became the sole owner and president.
The business expanded in 1974 with a division called the Jock Shop and moved again to a brand new 16,000 square foot building built in 1977, located at 10 Harrison Street. The expansion specialized in the sale of bicycles, sportswear, team sports, ski equipment, printed graphics, and textile uniforms. In 1982, a satellite store opened in Warren, PA. In addition, Jamestown Cycle Shop provided bicycle sales, repairs, and rentals at Chautauqua Institution during the summer months. He, along with his first wife Ann serving as vice president and secretary, built the business into the premiere bike and ski shop in the region. Over the years, an estimated 75,000 bikes and 35,000 skis and snowboards were sold.
Growing up in Jamestown gave Denny the foundation of who he was, and he enjoyed every minute of it. In his younger years, he had a love for playing baseball and bowling in various leagues. He enjoyed boating on Kinzua and Chautauqua Lake, along with winter sports like downhill skiing and snowmobiling. He loved his business and enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people in the community, plus the great employees he valued over the years. In 2002, Denny retired and sold the business to 3 employees.
Denny and his second wife Sandra enjoyed their winters in Florida for 20 years, where he enjoyed shallow water fishing, and then they moved to Saratoga Springs/Ballston Spa, NY. In later years, they travelled to Alaska, Italy, Sweden (family roots), Germany, and the Caribbean.
In the spring and summer, he enjoyed fishing excursions with his buddies to Quebec, Costa Rica, Newfoundland, and Labrador for over 35 years. Many of these excursions involved “drive in and fly-in” fishing to remote areas of Quebec. He has many memorable stories from those trips. He also enjoyed fishing excursions off the coast of Port Charlotte Harbor, FL, and valued the time spent with his favorite captain who coined him a "Champion of Life".
Denny prided himself on all the great friendships he had developed and maintained over the years. He was an avid sports fan especially of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and Detroit Tigers. He was a founding member of the Detroit Tigers Summer Club, which coordinated an annual luncheon celebration with local fan club members.
Denny’s memberships include Elks Lodge, Vikings Lodge, War Vets Recreation, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, DD Club, Port Charlotte Florida Jazz Club, and Sarasota Florida Jazz Club. He served on various boards of directors including Norden Club, Matthews and Miller Athletic Club which transitioned to Jock Shop Athletic Club, Chautauqua Striders, Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame, and Triple A Auto Club. During his working years, he maintained strong business affiliations with Ski Industries of America, National Sporting Goods Association, and Athletic Dealers of America.
Surviving is his wife, Sandra (Larson) Lundberg of Glens Falls, NY, whom he married October 2, 1999; children of his first wife, Ann: son Patrick (Lyn) Lundberg of Arvada, CO; daughter Denise Lundberg (Murphy) of Sterling, MA along with his granddaughters Brianna and Cayla Murphy of Boston, MA; stepchildren: Scott Larson of Malta, NY, and Tim (Robin) Larson of Glens Falls, NY, along with step grandchildren Ava and Ella Larson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann (Hartney) Lundberg, whom he married June 7, 1958, and died April 4, 1994.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chautauqua County Sports Hall of Fame and/or Chautauqua Striders.
