Frederick O. Hayes Jr., 86, of Jamestown, passed away Friday November 8, 2024, at Salamanca Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

He was born June 21, 1938, in Laurinburg, North Carolina, a son of the late Frederick Hayes Sr. and Virginia Dare (Jean).

Following high school, Fred served as a paratrooper in the Army, and he attended college at both Jamestown Community College and the University of Buffalo.

Fred loved to read and spent much of his time at the Prendergast Library, he also enjoyed playing chess and being outdoors in nature. In younger days he enjoyed sailing, hunting, fishing and driving sports cars.

He is survived by a son: Fred O. Hayes III (Sarah) of Ontario, New York, and two grandchildren Susan and Shaina.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife JoElla Palmer Hayes.
