James Richard Rasmussen, Jr., 75, of Jamestown, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born on December 14, 1949, to the late James R. Rasmussen, Sr. and Grace Brown Rasmussen.
Following high school graduation, James proudly joined the military. He remained dedicated to the service, making his career as a Marine and retiring as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. James often spoke to his time in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970 as a Marine.
Staying true to his career, James enjoyed collecting guns and spending time on the range. Hunting and fishing were also favorite outdoor hobbies.
James had a generous heart; moreover, he was constantly giving to others and even took care of feeding stray cats in the neighborhood.
James will be missed by his children, James Richard, III "Tre" (Stacey) Rasmussen and Amy (Al) Bishop; his grandchildren, Kaytlyn Rasmussen, Nicole Rasmussen, Nick Bishop, and Olivia Bishop; his great-grandchildren, Ivie Babyak-Urbanski and Gannon Bishop; his siblings, Diane Michaels, Jerry Rasmussen, and Tim Rasmussen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Rasmussen; his ex-wife who remained his close friend, Debbie Pawloski; and his beloved dog, Chewy.
The family will receive friends for an open time of storytelling and memory sharing from 2-4pm on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Road, Suite 100, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
