Obituary

Matthew Mark Moore, 81, passed away on Halloween, October 31, 2026. Born on October 3, 1945, in Jamestown, New York, Matt spent his life in the Jamestown and Chautauqua County area, where he built his career, raised his family, and established deep roots in the community.

Matt graduated from Jamestown High School and went on to graduate from Paul Smith's College, where he studied hotel and restaurant management.

Matt proudly served his country in the United States Navy Seabees, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. He entered service on July 29, 1969, and served through April 14, 1971.

Following his military service, Matthew built a long and successful career in the automotive industry. He worked as a salesman and general manager for Shults Auto Group for over 40 years.

Matt was deeply involved in his community and dedicated his time to numerous organizations. He served as President of the Holmberg Foundation and as a board member of Lake View Cemetery, Lutheran Social Services, and the Sportsman's Club. He was also a member of the Chautauqua Yacht Club and Moon Brook Country Club.

Outside of his professional and community commitments, Matt's favorite hobbies included fishing and motorcycling, which he enjoyed throughout much of his life.

Matt had a wild sense of humor and was a natural ball breaker. He loved to joke around and make people laugh, but underneath that larger-than-life personality was a big teddy bear with a heart full of love for his family and friends. He seemed to know everyone, and everyone loved Matt. In true Matt fashion, he always said he was going to die on Halloween so he could come back and haunt everyone every year. True to his word, Matt passed away on Halloween afternoon, leaving behind one last story that was unmistakably him.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Deborah Casler Moore; his two daughters, Melissa (David Gaeta) Moore and Lindsey (Miguel) Delgado; and his three grandchildren, Braelyn Rimes, Oliver Matthew Moore-Bryant, and Reef Delgado.

He is also survived by his chosen son, Brian Bigelow, and chosen grandson, Michael Winter; his in-laws, Denise (Tim) Williams, Tom (Diane) Casler, and Nicky Casler; and his nieces and nephews, Nicole (Peter) Snyder, Kahlie (Tyler) Abrahams, John (Sarah) Damond, Kristina (Ian) Townsend, and Ted Jeffrey (Ebony) Casler.

Matthew loved his family dearly.

Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Charles MB Moore and Rebekah "Betty" Moore; his brothers-in-law, Tim Casler and Ted Casler; his sisters-in-law, Diane "Annie" Dahlbeck and Cindy Shults Casler; and his nephews, Dereck Shults Casler and Cory Casler, and niece, Kellie Casler.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Matt's grandson, Oliver Matthew Moore-Bryant, to Claudia's Club, Inc., 4668 Helenwood Dr., Williamsville, NY 14221 (online at www.claudiasclub.org or Venmo: @claudiasclub) in support of programs for individuals with disabilities.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
