Andrew (Marianne) Nelson of Summerville, SC,

and their children, Reese, Parker, and Campbell.

Sylvia Crandall Nelson, 81, of Monroe, NC, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Charleston, SC, surrounded by her loving family as she entered eternal rest.

Born on April 26, 1944, in Jamestown, NY, Sylvia was the second daughter of the late Harland and Goldie Crandall.

Affectionately known as "Syl," she spent her formative years on the Crandall Dairy Farm on Buffalo Street Extension, where her deep affection for animals first took root. Syl graduated from Falconer Central High School in 1962 and soon began working at the Jamestown Telephone Corporation. It was during a visit to a local filling station in Jamestown that she met the love of her life, Ronald Nelson. The two were married on July 1, 1967, and celebrated their honeymoon at the Northern 300 race in Trenton, NJ—marking the beginning of a shared affection for racing that would last a lifetime.

The couple spent the next eight years in Jamestown, building a family and making memories with close friends. In 1975, Syl, Ron and young sons, Lee and Andrew, made a bold move to Sumter, SC, in support of Ron's career. While living in Sumter, Syl enjoyed bowling nights with her circle of loyal league friends and cherished time spent with her family — including the pets she persuaded Ron were just what the kids needed. After 19 years in Sumter, Syl and Ron relocated once more—this time to Monroe, NC—where they would eventually retire.

She is also survived by her sister, Doris (Kenneth) Williamson of Falconer, NY; her sister-in-law Donna Mendrick of Silver Spring, MD and several nieces and nephews who she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Alvin Crandall.

Ronald Laverne Nelson, 79, of Monroe, NC passed away March 12, 2018.

He was born in Jamestown, NY, on February 8, 1939 to the late Clifford Nelson and Evelyn Bingham.

He served 4 years in the Air Force as a radar early warning technician in the early 1960s, at McCoy Air Force Base in Orlando, Goose Bay (Labrador, Canada) and Syracuse, New York

He worked as a machinist/tool and die supervisor for most of his career, with 3 years at Premium Tool & Die in Jamestown, NY, and 30 years with Crescent Tool/Cooper Tools in Jamestown; Sumter, SC; and Monroe, NC. He retired in 2004 after working 6 years at Scott Health and Safety in Monroe.

Ron was a lifelong bowler as well, participating in leagues his entire adult life. He enjoyed being active outside, including walking in the neighborhood and taking care of the yard. He never met a stranger, loved talking to people and always had a story to tell.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, and the annual family trips to Darlington, SC and Rockingham, NC will forever hold special memories.

In addition, he is survived by one brother, Timothy Nelson of Nettles Island, FL and two sisters, Diane Eddy of Nettles Island, FL and Cindy Canfield, husband James of Jamestown, NY.
